Default 4v engine question

I am in need of some help to decide what engine to get for my 1999 gt, there is a knocking noise in my engine, and its been there since almost 2 years already and is driving me nuts, so I am planing on getting another engine for it. The options are my friends 1998 cobra engine with less than 10k or sent my engine to the machine shop. My friend wants 1700 for his engine, and the mechanic wants 1500 to fix up my engine.
would it be worth getting the cobra?
how hard would it be to get the cobra engine in my car, what extra parts do I need to get?
I appreciate all your help thanks.

Go for the cobra motor. It basically bolts right in from what I've seen, just has a different intake. I may be wrong though.

go for the cobra motor, out of the factory those engines were rated at 315 or 305, not sure which. not to mention the 4v's respond so much better to mods. the only other thing you should need is the cobra computer to replace your gt's. any other things you need should just be little stuff i would think. if youve got the money to do it, and the engine lined up to put in there do it!

I would go with the cobra motor as well, but you will need the cobra computer to go with it. but other than that, you shouldnt have a problem with it.

your motor 260bhp
cobra motor 305bh
and responds better to mods.

so is $200 worth 45bhp to you?
