I have seen it applied to fanjets as well. It's sort of odd that two so completely different internal combustion engines share the same four stages of operation, one rotary and the other reciprocating...

Its was nothing mentioned above....it ended up being a sensor down by the crank under the timing cover. Thanks for the help.
