Default theft system problems

thanks big time in advance to anyone who can help me! ok my car is either starting and dying or just turning over and not starting. i took it to a ford house and they tested it and found it was the theft module and said they could fix it for $404. so is there anyway to by pass or replace this my self? or do i just need to cough up the cash to them? im going to college and don't have a whole lot of spare cash so any help will really be good, thanks.

Go to a salvage yard and get one, just need to find out where it is located first, i believe it's under the dash. Dealer mechanic/parts dept. should be to tell you where it is, just go in with confidence and act like you know what your doing even if you don't !

Let me know if you get one, and good luck!!

ok i talk to the guy at the ford dealership that i let look at my car and he said a module from a salvage yard wouldn't work unless i had the keys that matched it and then it still might not work. is that bs? has anyone done this and know if it works for sure cause i need the car pretty bad.

Pretty sure you can disable the PATS system with a tune.

And your keys would work with a new unit from the Ford dealer? Either way, the module would have to be programmed to work with your keys. But I am not sure if it takes a special programmer or not... but I know it can be done.
How can you tell if a salvage unit is good? Other than that, I am sure it isn't that hard to do, will just take time.

Is it the PATS module itself or the transceiver? You can use a junkyard transceiver w/o any programming necessary. The PATS module will have to be programmed at a dealer. It could also be the key. If you have one or more extra keys, try that first.

ok im sure its the PATS cuase the ford house tested the heck out of it and the first thing i did was try my back up key (which didn't work either). and i have a diablosport predator tuner which with a custom tune can disable the PATS so im going that rout which is only gonna cost me about $150 for the PC cable and custom tune. thank you all for your suggestion!

You can disable it via tune, it's one scalar so paying a lot for it is a little ridiculous but that's what you sign up for when you don't tune it youself.

I'm doing some other research now on how to disable it. It's probably going to have to be done via tune.

Edit: This isn't a final answer but maybe this will help point you in the right direction:

Hope it helps.

Edit 2: Little more useful information
