Obvious overheat... but how bad?
Just looked at an a 1998 DOHC engine today for a replacement engine, looking for a good base to build the engine how I want to. The engine has clear damage to 2 pistons (visible through a boroscope), but the liners look ok. However, I did notice that the 2 knock sensors had the plastic melted, especially on the side of the 2 pistons that had burned.
I've looked everywhere I can but I have no idea how hot those sensors will get before melting. Before I even begin to consider this engine, I need to know if this block is decent?
Anyone seen this? anyone have an idea as to the highest temp these engine can get before warping?
Thanks for the info guys.

The price won't matter if the block is junk, and that's what I am trying to figure out, is the propability of the block being junk without exposing myself. If it's common to see melted knock sensors on slightly overheated blocks, then it's probably ok, but if not, then it'll be junk. Which is what brought me to the forums.
