Default number two cylinder wont fire

My 2003 gt over heated and now my check engine light is on. The number two cylinder isn't fireing. I changed the spark plug and the coil pack and that has not fixed the problem. Any ideas?

First thing to do is have the code scanned and start from there.

I assume you know the cylinder wasnt firing because you already pulled the codes correct>? Anything about the injectors mentioned? Could do a compression test also.

Unhappy

compression test showed number two and three cylinder have very low compression. no water in the oil or oil in the water but it seems the engine may have blew anyway unless anyone has any other ideas for me to try.

Ah ****, sounds like you melted the piston/rings and lost compression . Repeat the compression test and report specific results. GL with this.

any oil on the plug when you pulled it? and damage to the plug? I'm leaning towards rings myself...

There's a web of head gasket between the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 cylinders that is somewhat narrow and can crack without cross-contaminating the coolant and oil. Just a bit of warping from the overheating and it can blow out.

Do you have an illustration of some sort of this webbing cliff? I'm having a hard time visualizing.

Sure,

I have at times seen the broken "flap" of gasket behave as a check valve and allow one cylinder to develop enough compression to fire while the one next to bleeds down and will not fire...
