i was wondering, my buddy wants to swap a 5.4 into his 03 mustang. and i was wondering what kinda exhaust he'd use? would exhaust for a 4.6 match up to headers for a 5.4? i dont think they would but just curious

 

some people that do the swap say they got it to match up with some "persuasion" and others had to get their exhaust widened where they meet

yes. you can either use cobra shorty headers (longtubes will not work unless you get the 1500$ ones specially designed for the swap) or the stock manifolds and the GT exhaust may or may not bolt perfectly to it and an exhaust shop may have to do some minor modifications like the above said.

Cobra shorty headers??? NO!! u wud use your GT shorty headers since the 5.4 2v has the same heads that his car already has. the only thing that has to be done is widen the pipes that come up to the bottom of the headers about 2inches on each side. cobra shortys wud not work because the exhaust port shape is different.
