Yup--3.0L (3.2qts), the factory used 3.8L (4.0qts).

BTW, I would greatly recommend the Mobil 1 ATF. I had run RP Synchromax because I could get it at cost from a friend, but when that source dried up I got the M1 from Wally-World. Thing is that it shifts much smoother than the RP ever did...

Here is the TSB recommending the lesser fill...

It depends on who they wrote the recommendation for, here's what the TR-3650 service manual says:

Ford says "Synthetic Mercon ATF" in the owner's manual. The bottom line is that any ATF meeting the Mercon/Dexron III specs will work fine.

Obviously I have not used them all, but of the OEM fill (I presume to have been synthetic Mercon), RP Synchromax, and Mobil 1 I find the M1 to perform best...

i have used dex/merc III and made the switch to mobil 1... you won't regret it. much better 2-3 shift and better shifting overall

There's nothing wrong with the RP--it IS purple after all.

I have to admit it was a bit of a surprise to me that the M1 appears to be a better choice--as the RP costs more and isn't sold at Walmart--which "intuitively" (99.44% of what RP depends on) should make it better...

I use the Mobil 1 ATF in my t-45. It definitely shifts much smoother!! I can't exactly remember how many qts I filled, but I believe it was approx 3.5qts. I pretty much filled the trans till the fill hole dripped a bit. I recommend the M1 ATF.

DO NOT fill your 3650 like this!! the original recommendations will say that but the revised TSB will tell you def. not to! this is fine for those with t45's, but i reapeat, DO NOT use this method for a 3650! you will suffer!!
