Similar situation here except my trip home from school is about 400 miles, and I can't go less than 85 on the interstate. I went with the 3.73's beacause I had heard a lot of "crap" about higher rpms and poor gas mileage with the 4.10's... After having them installed and seein gthe difference in my stock vs. 3.73 mileage and rpms, I shoulda got the 4.10's. Don't get me wrong, I love my 3.73's but for what is it and extra 30 bucks for the 4.10's I'd have a better pull and basically the same performance as far as gas mileage goes. GET THE 4.10's!!!

Oh yea, I bought the ring and pinion from Ford (highly recommended by customers and mechanics alike) along with a bearing rebuild kit from mustangtunning, Royal Purple fluid and a new speedo gear for my transmission. I took all that to the shop and they installed it for $280.

^^^^^^^^^ I have seen so many posts about gears on here that say the same thing as Emann0007 and that is the reason that I am going to get the 4.10's when I get gears (wich will be my next mod, after I get all my suspension installed)

If u are unsure of what to go with...3.73s or 4.10s...some manufacturers make a 3.90. Ford DOES NOT and after exploring this just as u (I just ordered my gears yesterday) and what I have found is that some gears whine, some are a bit harder to install, and some gears some shop JUST WON'T TOUCH. Thats why I went with Ford gears...they are shop/car friendly.

Umm.. that sounds like FUD. I've got Motive Performance 3.90s in my 02 GT and they're great. When I was shopping for installation, I didn't have a single shop tell me they wouldn't touch them. Of course FRPP (Ford) are excellent gears, but don't disregard the aftermarket. My opinion is that the skill of the installer is far more important than the make of the gears as long as you stick with a known manufacturer. Even FRPP gears will whine if not installed correctly.

My gears have absolutely no whine that I can hear -- but I know the installer has done loads of gear installs and is familiar specifically with Ford 8.8s.

Hello, I have a very similar question... So thought I would ask in here
instead of a new thread....

OK...

My mustang (2004 GT) I use for "pleasure" driving only.
not like I drive it to work etc. etc.
So I like it for cruising/racing etc.

My question is...
I want to get 4.10's HOWEVER will they stop me from going over 100+ mph if I have to?
b/c If I need to/want to go over 100-130,150 whatever.... I want to be able to do that.

So can you please let me know?
(Im new to this)

THANKS!

you could go 130 with 4.10s if you really wanted to.

I disagree. You could only go 130 with 4.10s if you really have to.
who are you racing at 140 mph, you crazy guy? and many people will say you can go a little faster in 5th gear with 4.10s cause you can get into the powerband before drag stops you.
