Default stopped running, possible fuel issue

thanx for the opportunity to join your forum. i am an almost old-guy with 3 fords. picked up my 1st mustang, a '96 GT, last year. got it for a good price, $1500, and had to jump. i've been driving it around the neighborhood about once a month, just to keep the parts moving, until i was ready to begin the work. now ready to kick my project off, i just started it for the 1st time in maybe 3 months. i had to jump-start it, of course. it was uncharacteristically hard to start, but finally did. after letting it idle for about 5 minutes, i gave it some gas, and it died. tried to start it again, but it wouldn't. after lots of attempts, it fired again, then died again. with the ignition in the run position, i get not even a drop from the schraeder valve on the fuel rail. shouldn't this squirt fuel when i depress the valve? just went to the gas station and put 4 gallons of premium in a gas can, and put that in the 'stang. no help. i'm thinking, fuel pump, relay, fuse, filter, etc. i am brand new with 'stangs, and could use a little input. any thoughts are appreciated. thanx for reading my post.
