Default Is it cheaper to beef up my block or go with a MMR short block??

Need a little input or suggestions. After I install the V1, I'm looking to be at or above 400 RWHP. I am now starting to look at hitting the 500 mark (I'm shooting for you Lizzy), by the end of next year. I'm looking at the MMR 600 block which presently costs', somewhere around 2500 bucks. I was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy the components my self and beef up my stock block. Also what components are crucial (must have) to beef up my block( crankshaft, pistons, etc., etc.,)? One last thing. What would be a reasonable price to pay for labor when it comes to installing the MMR block? Thanks guys and as always any help is appreciated.

Honestly...this really comes down to your mechanical abilities and available time I think..
If I were you, I would just get a built shortblock that is balanced and blueprinted already. I have no personal experience with MMR, but have heard mixed reviews about their quality...

dude i was just there. It would be only be a little bit cheaper to buy a forged kit and have another engine builder assemble but not worth it. Unless you are doing the work yourself you will save some dough but if you don't do it for a living is it worth it?

If you are on a budget you don't need a forge crank they are good until 600 hp i believe. MMR 600 block is not a forged crank, which is why I opted for MMR800 do it once.

it would be cheaper to do it your self mmr blocks are what 5k?? and you can get forged rods and pistons for 1600 iirc so take the price of machine work and bearings, seals, and gaskets you could probably save 1000-1500 minimum

Forgot to mentio that I have no mechanical skills. I'm really leaning towards putting the MMR 600 block on layaway with a 1,000 down payment next April and paying it off in a year. What would be the usual cost of labor to get that block installed in my car?
