Default Rear end noise??

Hey guys, I drive a 98 GT with a stock rear end except for 4.10 gears, which were installed about 2 1/2 years ago. Yesterday I noticed when I would turn going slow-medium speeds, I could hear and feel a clunking/grinding noise coming from the rear end. It seems to only happen when I turn and accelerate at the same time, can't hear it when turning and letting off the gas. Also, it doesnt seem to happen every single turn either, but it does sound very horrible. I checked the brakes, exhaust, and anything that could be loose back there..but I have a feeling its in the differential. I also checked the u-joints which were fine. Whats inside of the differential that could cause this noise?

Thanks for the help!

might also be differential bearings. If the bearings on the carrier go bad they can allow the ring gear to be misaligned when the axle pushes or pulls the carrier. You should be able to tell what this issue once you get it a part. If i were i would just rebuild it with new friction pads for the trak loc and at minimum replace the 2 inside bearings but you should most likely replace the outside ones too. Hopefully you haven't damaged your gears.

Well, i took it up to the shop where my dad works and we drove it around for quite awhile and couldnt get it to make any sounds. We lifted it, checked everything over and didnt find anything wrong..but we did not take the cover off the diff. Im just going to keep driving it until the sound comes back or hopefully doesnt.

Can you recall if you did anything at all recently that could have caused this?

Could be the spider gears?

I would think if it was the spider gears it would make the noise anytime while turning. An easy check would be to open the diff up and check the gear contact pattern.
