New Mustang Owner ? about Trans
I have a 96 Mustang GT with an auto trans. My question is I so desperately want to go with a manual trans. I have about 63K on the odmeter I am pretty new to the Mustang world I have only had it 3 months, it drives well other than a little creaking when I am turning the wheel to park or things like that. Engine runs really good, bone dry underneath chassis, new alternator, it was in a side collision but was not totaled. So I want to know should I get a T-45, T-65, or Tremec off of Ebay cause I don't want to pay top dollar. Also, I'm not lookin' to get tons of HP out of my Mustang in the future maybe in the future I would be looking at the maximum output of 350 Horses. I'm not a hard driver either and I'm an Ex- Taurus SHO owner so I won't be long until I start seeking out low costing performance parts and jobs to go to my performance shop with. Thanx for what ever input you guys have.

JUST CURIOUS, WHAT YEAR WAS YOUR SHO? I HAD A SERIES 2 1994, THOSE CARS WERE SLEEPERS, THEY WERE REALLY QUICK. I ACTUALLY SOLD THE SHO TO BUY THE 2002 MUSTANG GT I DRIVE NOW. THE ONLY THING THAT BUGGED ME WAS I FELT THAT THE SHO WOULD SMOKE THE STANG IN THE FIRST 1/8 MILE. WELL, I TOOK CARE OF THAT. FOR ABOUT $ 400.00 I KNOW THE SHO WOULDN'T EVENG GET A SNIFF OF THE STANG ANYWHERE DOWN THE LINE... NOW THAT STANG JUST FLAT OUT RUNS NICE.

The T-45 came stock in Mustangs that year, this would fit and be fine at 350HP/TQ. The T-56 is in 03-04 Cobras, it's a six speed, and bullet proof. Tremec makes both of these transmissions as well as the TR3650 in the mid 01-04 GTs.

If i wanted to get around 325 to 350HP/TQ should I seek bolt-on mods (e.g. Superchip, K&N MAF, Borla Exhuast, Cold air) for that type of performance or engine work (e.g. cam swaps, Super Charger, Heads)? Also, would this have an impact on if I should go with a T-45 or T-56?

I would say go with the T-56 over the T-45 and not have to worry about it in the least if you decide to get more power out of your stang later.
