I don't think it's difficult. I've done it before though. It's not physically hard or anything, you just have to understand it really. Google some writeups, one is bound to clear it up for you. If you have a good understanding of how engines work, you should be able to get it.

Gears are doable too. I've done gears with no problem. You just have to decide if it's something you can do. Asking other people on the internet isn't going to help, since they're just going to tell you based on themselves.

Put it this way. If you're not sure if you should be doing something, you probably shouldn't.

If you do want to do it, just have someone there who knows what they're doing.

No, but it's easier. I've done it both ways. I wouldn't pull it JUST to degree/install cams, but if it's out then that's the time to do it.

ya i don't need to pull it for any reason... do i need to pull the head to find tdc? or is it accurate enough to go down the spark plug.

You don't have to pull the head. You can use a piston stop which will basically stop the engine from rotating when whichever cylinder you put it in is at TDC. That's the most accurate way.

I've also used a dial indicator with a long extension on it, but it's more of a PITA.

Judging by some of the questions you are asking and lack of expereince with the desired tools to complete this job it may be a good idea to find some locally that can help you do it which would still be better than taking it to a garage.
