Default help tail light problem

just got an 03 mustang gt 2 weeks ago. Everything has been perfect the car is like new. all of a sudden today it was very hard to shift out of park. I looked in the manual it said there maybe a problem with the back up lights. sure enough no brake lights all of a sudden. Does anyone know what I could check. I checked the fuse and replaced it still same problem. If anyone has any ideas on what I can try I will be very grateful, sinced I am parked for the time being
Thanks

This year (not sure about other years) gt has a safe guard that will not let you put in gear if the break lights are not working. Had a mechanic look at mine found a broken wire under the dash. Not sure how that could have happened but thankfully I m back out menacing the road again. Well not as much as when I had my 88 50 but thats another story...thanks..I guess
