2004 4.7 40th annv edition need help......
Purchased a 04 stangt but has a slight ticking noise when idling, If i depress the clutch just a hair it goes away, Went to local ford dealer and said its probably the tob. And said 1100.00 to install, Instead bought a heavy duty tob at american muscle and had it installed at the locaql kost shop for 700.00 instead. Its still doing the same thing, Cars in mint condition with 50,000 miles and other then the ticking runs fine, Any advice? BTW Iam taking the dealer to small claims court for bad inspection, I woulnt of spent the bucks on a tob if they didnt diagnose it to be a tob.Currently its being stored and everyone says throw out bearing, What would cause and sound like a tob? But new tob already installed?????????? Thax ahead for any help.
Im no there to listen to your noise, but cliffy as a point. My t45 (which is an older, different trans) will wind up in neutral and make a whirring sound and when u touch the clutch pedal it'll go away as well.
I've also installed TOBs that there bad. I put a zoom hd clutch in my buddy's mustang and the TOB went bad in like 2 weeks. Had to replace it with a Ford one.

Something to keep in mind about our cars is that they are the last of the line with regard to being basically an upgraded Falcon with a 3/4 ton pickup motor and drive train. Everything is pretty crude compared to many other '99 to '04 cars, and especially as compared to the '08+ Mustangs.
What this means is that the drivetrain is a bit less refined than the average run-of-the-mill cars--and a lot less refined than any Jap car.
Because even a little V8 like we have can still pump out a lot of torque at lower engine speeds we have a fairly robust transmission (conservatively rated at 360lbft) that was designed to handle the load--not necessarily be as quiet as possible.
Don't get me wrong, I happen to like it all--even simple things like the headlight/dimmer/dome light switch in the dash remind of the days when we had real muscle cars. I wish the dimmer switch was on the floor (but I'd miss the dead pedal).

You know this might be a little crazy but check the cover of the clutch cable next to the transmission it might come loose over time and hit against the transmission making a tick or knock like mine did(though my motor was knocking but turned out to be that cover just a suggestion.....
