Default bad news, blown engine. please help

I got news today that my girlfriends 98 gt is blown. We have been waiting awhile now for the news and it finally came today. We are ok for now since we are sharing my f150 and 02 gt. But its time to get hers back on the road. We think she did major damage the last time we were at the track last season.

The guy who has the car right now who did the tear down to figure out what happened is going to put in a new motor (trans too if we find one) for $400. We just have to find the motor and trans.

My question to you all is.... engines. I know a 96-98 will swap right in but we would like to find a 99-04 PI engine. What will need to be changed? Computer, exhaust? She has bbk shorties on it now would the transfer over, if not will stock 99-04 headers bolt to her 98 mid pipe.

Lots of questions, never done an engine swap and would like help on the information before we have it done. Thank you

the 99-04 motor will drop right in, you will need to modify your existing harness to accomodate the coil over plug setup unless you have the harness for the new motor, the shorty headers should swap over if I remmeber correctly.

This is the time you take the opportunity to upgrade and get a 96-98 or 99/01 cobra motor!

Go with a Mark VIII motor. They can be had for CHEAPER than a PI 2V and make more power. Trust me, you will not regret going 4V.
