Default T3650 2nd gear shift grind video

Hey guys... I have a 2003 GT and figured I'd post this to help people who have the same issue (there are quite a few of us).

I had a grind from 1st into 2nd gear that was very pronounced when my trans was cold. Thankfully it was under warranty, and after a huge amt of hassle it got fixed (had to threaten to sue the dealership before they would work on it). If it wasn't under warranty it would have been about a $2400 dollar fix. It was a 2nd gear synchro issue. Attached is the TSB. Good luck to all of you who have a similar issue on your 99-04 GT's!

Here is the TSB - http://www.stangnet.com/images/stori...s/04-15-06.pdf

Turn up the volume to hear the grind.

I'd say it's probably only mid 01-04, but not just gt's. mach 1's do it too . my 2nd is fine, but 3rd does the same damn thing yours does. probably the most frustrating thing in the world.

Def super irritating. And it's even more irritating when you bring it in to hear the "problem was not reproduced". I guess if I was the dealer I would try to say that at least once to not have to pay big bux to fix...

Does your grind go away (@ both of you) when the trans heats up???

mine does it to but its reverse which i like the worst gear ever. If i move the shifter into 4th before reverse then its perfectly fine. I was just wondering why it works when i do that?

My second gear is bad especially when the tranny is cold. Once warm i don't have any problems as long as the tires aren't spinning. If I break the tires loose in first (wet road, etc) and try to shift I have to really concentrate on the shift or I'll miss second. I am guessing that ford is trying not to cover any of these anymore do to the age of these cars. I would by a new TKO before I would fix my 3650, IMO it is not a very good tranny. Gear spacing just sucks. I would love a 6 speed but those seem pretty expensive even used and if they have been abused and need rebuilt it even worse.

I can't rag on ford. I bought it used from a Chevy dealership. I'm very disappointed in Chevy's customer service. I even showed them the video and they still wouldn't fix it. Finally, I sent them a letter saying I was going to sue and they caved. On top of that they couldn't do the work and had to send it to a Ford dealership to get the work done. The people at the Ford dealership were great. I wonder if I would've had a different experience if I bought it used from a Ford dealership.

Nope. I bought it used and discovered the grind while still in the 2 mos/ 2000 miles limited warranty period. I'm glad I bought this car during the wintertime otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. The cold really brought the grind out.
