So I have a stock 8.8 rear end in my 96 mustang gt. I'm thinking about getting some Hoosier 255/50/16 drag radials for my stock 96 16" rims for drag use. My question is, will my rear end hold up to these tires? I know that the stock rear ends are pretty tough but these drag radials are basically slicks with 2 lines in the to make them dot approved.
Also my diff. yoke seal is leaking very slightly. Not sure if thats what it is called but it is the one that the drive shaft is connected to. Are these hard to change or will it not affect me too much? It is slightly wet on the underside of the car from fluid spray and slightly wet on bottom of seal where it would drip but i have had my car sitting for almost a year and there is no drip marks what so ever on the ground??? Again should it be changed/how hard or should I just leave it till i save enough to do the full rebuild I plan later this year if not next year with taxes?
The leak is coming from the pinion seal, as far as the rear holding up, how many miles are on it. Thats an awfully big tire for stock 28 spline axles, but theres only one way to find out.
It just depends man. For some it will hold for a while, and for others it won't. Obviously, since you have more power via some boost, it's gonna give a bit sooner.

+1 ive seen them let go on drag radials. start savin your money now for a rear build up as you will need to do it sooner or later. its just a matter of time. good luck
Don't want to jack the thread. But I'm in a similar position. What is involved in the swap? and if you run to failure don't you risk more, like a possible spent housing?
