Default Modular Motor run in/test stand

I have a test stand that I use to run my push rod motors on before I drop them into the car. I would like to be able to do this with a mod motor also.

From what I have read to run a mod motor I would need the ecu (of course) and that factory gauges need to be there to complete feedback to the ecu.

I want to know if that is correct. If this is correct, is there any work around?

One other question on this vein is what about the chipped key? Would I need to have a factory ignition switch also for the ecu to allow it to start?

Is there anything else that I am missing on what I need to have so a mod motor run on a test stand?

I would like to have an idea of what I need so I can start to hit the bone yards and parting out adds.
