Default Mach 1 shaker

hey all, i drive a metalic silver 2003 GT Premium and i really fancy the Mach 1 shaker system. although when i found it available on www.americanmuscle.com , it has a funny looking black piece that goes down the front of the hood to make up for the "bulkness" the stock hood doesnt have and i honestly dont like it at all. this is what they offer:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/shaker-hood-kit.html

does anyone know a place i could find an actual (preferably unpainted) 03-04 mach 1 hood & shaker system combo to buy?

I ran the cdc kit on mine its really the same one they have on american muscle. I had the plastic peice on it looked ok it looks better when its paint matched to your car but anyway that plastic peice came flying off when I was in germany and was going over 130mph for a period of time. I ended up ordering an aftermarket mach1 hood from carpartswholesale it came in primer gray and cost me $200 to get it installed and painted. I dont know if they sell thatt hood anymore though.

I had it on my v6 for about 2 years. Looked mint with it painted and stripes on it. If its bolted down right no worries of it flying off driving around. But I can deffently tell you this.. you won't feel a noticable difference in power at low speeds but if you highway drive at like 65+ youll feel a little bit more power. Normal CAI intake is the way to go imo now.. looks sick though. If I had the money to do it again I would but Id rather put it towards a CAI + Tuner Package for like 200+ bucks less.

Unless you're wanting it for the looks more than performance, the gear+tuner combo costs about the same or less than a cai+tuner combo and you'll notice much better performance out of it.

Gears and tuner. CAI is a waste of money unless you want it for styling, you would be better off dropping in a K&N air filter.

K&N - $50 - flows 881 CFM
Spectre - $20/$30 - IIRC flows 1120 CFM

Just sayin

It's not all about cfm. The filter has to FILTER the air too. Knowing the Spectre name being what it is I would put some money on it that it's not as effective at filtering. Pay the money and put a quality filter on the car.

Both filters are tested to ISO5011 standards by outside labs(in this case Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas) and Spectre test showed 98%-99% cumulative fractional efficiency, which is the percentage of dust particulates that the filter traps. IIRC filter testing does 5 microns to like 170ish.

I personally think their cai's are pieces of crap, but I haven't had a problem with their filters....yet lol

This is true, but you'll gain more HP out of the JLT or K&N piping since its wider and less air flow distance. Throwing on a K&N filter is just as pointless.. Gears will wake up the car but you will not gain HP out of it. You'll just get through the gears faster. Personally Id do the CAI+Tuner Package because installing the gears is something I don't recommend doing yourself vs a professional. The CAI package you can do yourself without spending more money to get the gears installed but unless you have the extra dough to spit out either way is a good option.
