Default T56 or T36?

im debating on what tranny to put in my car its an 04 gt. Is there anywhere that has a built t3650 and should i put that in? Or should i to put a t56 in from a cobra? I'm having trouble finding a t56 thats not over $3000. I found some on ebay but would like to buy one from a reputable buyer. So i need some input thanks.

If you want 6-speeds then get the T-56, otherwise look into a "built" 3650 or one of the TKO's.

If (when) I need a new tranny I will likely seriously consider a TKO-600 with the 2.87:1 first gear (model TCET5008) as I have no interest in a 6-speed, and find the 3.38:1 1st in the 3650 to be too low for use with the 3.73 back end...

I think you can find the TKOs for quite a bit less. I would really like the t56 but thats a lot of money and im not headed to the track so unless I completely trash my 3650 im stuck with it.

Cool...

With an engine that has a relatively narrow power band, or for road racing, they can be nice to have.

OTH and IMHO, on a DD with a V-8 it's overkill--in normal driving with my GT and 3.73s I generally skip 2nd if I start out in 1st, and skip 3rd when launching in 2nd (with no difficulty if rolling at all, or on level ground). In fact 0-60 when launching in 2nd (and admittedly abusing the clutch) is faster than starting out in 1st--which is also admittedly too low in combination with the 3.73s.

And do not drive like anyone's granny...
