It doesn't add HP per say. It allows your motor to release coolant at a lower temperature. Lower engine temps. mean better power.

cooler is not always better. some engines run better at 180° then 160°, now if you have a tune or some kind of hand held tuner i think that some of them have a option for a lower T-stat, i dont know if it is for the fan to turn on or what. But dont get me wrong cooler is better, but to cool will hurt HP and burn up gas, and at these prices i dont really think you want to do that. [:@]

He's right. 160* is too low, IMO. A 180* should be fine. Unless your car runs hot then there is no real point to changing it.

Depends on what you're running.

I take my car from Ames, IA back to VA, runing 3,200 rpms the whole way.... I want my car to stay COOL!

The thermostat will run a little more than $10.00. My SLP was $26.00.

i have the 160* and it keeps my car at about 170* or so says my water temp gauge. i like it running cool especially at the track it cools down alot quicker and feels it run better.

If you were running a Supercharger or turbo would it be a better choice to run a 160 degree rather than a 180 degree?

i would assume so,probably to cool the engine more so you would not have to worry about dentanation(sp?) as much there would be if it was running hotter. imo
