Is the PI swap a direct swap of the 96-98 heads for the 99-04 heads or is there some custom work that go with it? If I use after market heads would it have better outcome?

In my opinion a full exhaust setup is always a nice mod to start with, get some LTs offroad mid pipe and a cat back, get that wicked sound to turn some heads, its one of those mods that just put a smile on your face.

Yea I agree, get a full exhaust setup. Turns alot of heads, plus whenever you start it up you get the chills and it puts a big smile on your face

Yes it is a direct swap provided that you get everything (PI heads/cams, Intake), And yes you would get a lot better gains if you use aftermarket P&P heads. Check out Fox Lake Raceing, VT Engines for more info on their heads and such.

Yes it is a direct swap, when people refer to a PI swap they normally mean the heads, intake manifold, and cams off a 99+ GT. It basically swaps directly over just need a few small other parts, search around I'm sure u can find somebody who can give you a list of the other small parts you need. There are no aftermarket heads for the 4.6 so far. Companies that do sell heads are just Port and Polished PI heads.

If you are gonna keep everything stock (99+ stock that is) and you have patience, then I would say the cheapest place would be a junkyard. Find a wrecked low milage GT and then get the rest of the seals etc from ford.

BTW, if you really intend to do this, now is an excellent time to do the exaust (you have to take it off anyway to get the heads out), and a great time to do a aftermarket camswap and/or get your heads ported. You already have the stuff out, might as well only do all the work once.

If you do get some ported heads, and cams, and exaust, you will not even think it is the same car when you drive it the first time. 96-98 dyno curves are UGLY and you are likely to pick up 100 + RWHP, or 1/3 more.
