Well my car died today, blew the plug out of the head, front driver side. Can this be fixed?and does anyone know about what it would cost?

Helicoil will fix it if done right or you could replace the head. Either way it isn't the end of the world. There is something else I heard someone raving about but I can't remember what it was called. I think it was some sort of insert that required a different plug after isntalled. Either way good luck.

the thread repair is called "timesert." i blew a plug once, but luckily the threads stayed in the head and i was able to put a new plug in and drive without issue. if you dont feel comfortable using the timesert kit yourself then i advise you give nick mckinney a call over at modular head shop.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I will make a few phone calls and see what the going rate is. I guess I will try a new plug first, maybe I will get lucky.

I have to ask myself, what the hell is Ford thinking when they design this stuff? Either the plugs blow out of the head or the dam things won't come out like the 3v F150's.

Who last changed the plugs, were they properly torqued?

The first time I changed the plugs in the 03 as I was pulling out a plug I got a nice surprise along with it. A nice Helicoil. The person didn't use anti-seize on the plug threads and it pulled the coil right out. I still haven't had the drive to really fix it right.

I was able to put the plug back in a tighten it enough to get the car on the trailer. Hopefully a new plug with new threads will do the trick. Cars at the shop right now
and quoted about $150.00. I called the Ford Dealer and they wouldn't touch it because someone else had changed the plugs.
