Hey all,


Not sure if anyone remembers me as I have been out of the loop for a little while now. Anyway I have an 04 GT that I have put mostly back to stock because I am trying to fix up all the problems and possibly sell it. I have never had any problems relating to the motor or anything but I have recently discovered that I am somehow having a slow coolant leak.

A couple weeks ago I popped my hood just to look around and noticed that my coolant reservoir was very low, almost empty.

I topped it off with some water and within a day of driving, the tank was almost empty again. After topping it off about twice, everything seemed to be fine again. Then today a little over a week after last checking it, the tank is almost empty again.

I can't see any signs of leaks around the top of the motor and I haven't look under the car yet but I doubt I will see anything. I have not had any problems with the motor overheating or the coolant gauge going past the middle or anything of that nature.

Does anyone know what could be the source of the leak or anything I can check or do?

When you first start up the car, do you have colored exhaust? My brain is fried right now and I can't remember which color is for coolant, but I'm think it is blue/gray exhaust means coolant is burning in the chamber which basically means a leaking head gasket.
Another range of possibilities is along the heater core circuit... are you noticing any dampness on the passenger side front floor, or in the engine compartment where the hoses enter the firewall, or around the waterpump?
When was the last time the coolant system was flushed?
Maybe have the system pressure tested?
As an aside, don't keep topping off the reservoir with just water.

I think white smoke is coolant, blue is oil, and black is fuel. I would check all over the engine. On my old truck, the timing cover had a slow coolant leak, yet it somehow never left spots on the driveway. Never did quite figure out how it was leaking yet no puddle though. haha

could be an air bubble in your system from whenever it was last changed...fill it at the top of the cross over tube

Thanks for the replies guys. I couldn't get back to you all fast enough cause I've been a little busy the last few weeks. Anyhow...I guess the problem won't need fixing anymore cause some big rig decided to run a red light right in front of me this morning and wreck my car.

That really sucks. You have good insurance? I would hope since it's a vehicle owned by a company they'd bend over backwards to help you out to avoid a lawsuit since it was the driver's fault.
