Default 2001 gt convertible top question

greetings. I have been reading this forum for a month. I have recently purchased a 2001 black gt with black top and tan leather. The car only has 53,000 miles. I love, love, love it. I have a convertible top question i need help with and I KNOW that there are some who will know the answer.
Recently the top would rise very slowly. The passenger side would start out going up and then the driver side would catch up. It has gotten very fast on the retracting phase. I mean it will go down in a hurry. This was unusual. Went to school today and went to put up top and it stopped going up about a 1/3 of the way. Had to have my daughter pull on it while I pushed the button. What do I have to do to make this right? Is it the motor? Is it the hydraulics of the lift? Will I damage the top if I continue to use assistance to get the top up? Please help a newbie.

Driving a Mustang is exhillarating. Can't believe it took me this long to be able to get one. IT's amazing and I don't even have much extras on it. Just a CAI that had been put on earlier by someone else.

Sounds like a low fluid situation, orair in the system. Check for leaks at the motor/resevoir and lines. Congrats on your new ride! Just got mine in April, 01 Amazon green GT Vert w/ 2 tone parchment (tan) interior. Tan top.

Sounds like the hydrolic motor. Mine goes down in about 10 seconds. Idk if that is slow or not.

Thank you. That is a great checklist. I will give it a try this weekend. Hope I am successful in at least figuring out the cause.

Is there a difference to the sides of the motor? Isn't it all one motor?
