Hhhmmm, food for thought, thanks for your input man. Oh, and yeah I know what you mean about different prices.

OP, can you let us know your results when you change the fluid? It would be much appreciated.

grinding in reverse is common with the t45s, it sounds like you have a tired trans honestly. First thing is change the fluid and adjust the clutch and see what you have. If your looking for a replacement transmission Keisler makes a RS500 and RS600 trans which is guranteed to take more torque than the TKOs and and its based of a t45 so its a direct swap instead of putting in a TKO. Im currnetly working on building my first "Beefed" T45 which if goes well I'll be selling a few, its basically gonna be a t45 with synchros and shift forks from a t56 along with a 26 spline input.

Alright I'll give that a try, how exactly do you adjust the clutch? I know on my old 94 gt you had to mash the clutch to the floor then by hand pull it up and it would set. Is it the same way for the 98 cobras?

if its the stock quadrant u simply lift up on the clutch pedal and hold it for a few seconds then let it drop back into place.

Alright guys I finallly got the fluid changed in the tranny. It took me a bit longer to do than I had anticipated, mainly because I haven't had the time and I was waiting on my new shifter to show up (Hurst Billet/Plus SST). The Hurst is AMAZING, but the problem with the grinding in the transmission is still there after the fluid change and the clutch adjustment. Unfortunately, I think that the only fix to my problem will be to either rebuild the transmission or get a replacement. Thank you all for your help!
