i might be wrong on this but i think stage 2 cams on average is like 15-25 i think, anything bigger than stage 2's require upgraded valves and springs, and you have to check for piston to valve clearance

Yeah realistically 15-25 hp with just cams alone. With that said i'm happy with my MHS stage 2's.

well im assuming that you dont have PI heads... not having PI heads and having PI heads is a big debate as you can see in this link..https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l...l-pi-swap.html.... with NPI heads you have a way larger PTV clearance than you do with PI heads, but your also looking at less hp without them. if you read the link most of the guys there say 10 hp maybe.. they say the best thing to do is the PI manifold.. then do cams and gain a little more. but you also have to think in advance if you wanna put on some PI heads because the cams might not fit after you switch.

Actually the OP has the PI heads since it's an 03 gt.

Also something to keep in mind is that the better sounding cams are usually the ones that make the least usable power. Not always the case, but there's a lot of truth to that, especially when we're talking a stock PI head motor.

^good looks, didnt even think about that. but its true, those hotrod cams from comp cams dont give the newer mustangs more power at all.. but seeing as he has PI heads then he will be at a disadvantage for a bigger cam which supposedly suppose to make a better sound, am i correct?

Yep you're basically right. I mean the OP could run some grinds with a ton of exhaust duration (that wouldn't cause clearance issues) and that would give a good sound, but again it probably wouldn't be best for power output.

You make a good point about the Hot Rod cams too. My bro had the Comp Thumper cams installed (almost identical to the hot rods) with charge motion deletes on his 06 gt and made 15 rwhp. But OMG do they sound very bada$$ lol.

really with cams you can either have a decent sounding cam in there and gain the hp out of them or have a really bada$$ sounding cam and not get the gain in hp. it all depends on what your looking for and the heads on your car also. haha. because since you cant fit that large of a cam in you might as well get the pretty good sound and the hp IMHO.

Op, be careful of those Hitech stage 2 cams. You will have very little ptv clearance even if they're at a 112 ICL. If their at a 110 ICL forget it!
