My car does it too, do you have a t5 tranny? there is no synchro so it couldnt be that, some people say its the reverse idler gear. but have you tried putting it in 4th or 5th first then put it in reverse and trying it?

If 5th to reverse doesn't work go from 1st to reverse. It will work about every 3rd time. Sometimes you have to let the clutch out in neutral and start over again. Welcome to the world of the T45.....enjoy.

Don't the Tremec 3650 do this also?

I think so......not really sure, I have a 98 with (obviously) the T45. However, unless the OP has his trans swapped for a 3650, he's feeling the woes of the T45 :P

BTW I'm not bashing your comment Demonhead.

Yep common issue of both the 45 and the 3650, no real fix just have to deal with it unfortunately

I found when mine was doing this before I got it rebuilt. If I remember correctly (it was by habit). I would shift into 4th gear lift the clutch just enough to put load (dont let it it out to much) and then push the clutch back in (this is in order to slow the syncros). then one full and smooth motion from forth up and over and down. It would go in everytime.

That or sometimes the gearing didnt seem to line up and if you release
your emergency brake before you try to put in gear, it will roll an inch so the gears line up.
