I am leaning towards selling my 03 GT - my baby!! :'(

I never thought I would sell this car but it might have to happen now.

the vehicle has 75k miles and is in great shape. Always took care of it. My question is what I can expect for this car with the below listed mods. It also has a custom audio system built by a shop near my house. 7 inch touch screen dvd/nav unit with ipod controls, kenwood amp with custom box in trunk holding two kenwood 12s. Very sharp

Also, if I sell it to a dealer to save all the work, should I tell them about the mods? They will obviously see a few but I hear dealers want the car to be stock?

I would be hurt with anything less than 12k for my baby. I've put sooo much TLC into this car its like a son to me!

I very much doubt you would get anywhere near 12k from a dealer. I would even question that from a direct sale. Advertise at 12k maybe, and hope for 10k.
Personally, I wouldn't even pay that, but then I can be cheap at times.

you will get about 7-9 grand from a dealership and mods usually mean a deduction in price from a dealer but may mean an slight increase when it comes to personal sales. Dealers like to buy and sell them almost stock. Personal buyers like the mods so if you do go the dealer route dont mention mods depending on who look at it may not even notice the mods and dont expect 12 grand from a dealer.

I was afraid of that....but I don't really have the time to make a personal ad and wait possibly a few months to sell.

The last dealership I was at usually bought their used vehicles at a min of 3-4k under what they will plan to get for it. So $8,000 for a car they will put on the lot for $12,000 ect.

ive worked at a ford and chevy dealer and they want it stock. put it back to stock if you can or try to sell it privately on craigslist or ebay or something else but dont trade it in unless you are really hurting for money.

I just purchased my '04 GT with 60k miles for 9500 from a dealer. I don't know what you should expect on the open market

You'd be lucky to get 7K (dealer) in the cities for it. I've seen similar ones in miles/mods on CL going for 9-10K (tops). The market for new edge GT's have really dropped over the last couple years, especially now that there's 2 newer generations of mustangs out. Only the Cobra's and Mach 1's still hold value well of the 99-04.

I ran in to a former neighbor, sales manager at a one of the Ford dealers here in NE Florida, at the grocery store over the weekend--and out of curiosity asked what they would pay for the OP's '03 GT. He thought I was asking about mine at first and said "not anywhere near what it's worth."

I explained further and he told me they would offer no more than $4k, basically telling the seller they don't want it. If the seller insisted, and the title was clear, they'd buy it--show it for 2 to 3 weeks, no more than a month, then send it off to auction and get a "no hassle" $1500 or so.

To quote, "$4k to $5k is what we make on a new GT¹, a nice clean '03 would have to bring in the same money for us to keep it on the lot."

¹ - From previous conversations I know this is what they make on the car, the "spiffs" (extended warranty, finance company kickbacks, etc.) can bring in as much as another $1k.
