Default Transmission Noise

I have an 02 mustang with a tr 3650.. Its been making a whinning noise for a few weeks and getting worse.. I changed the fluid and it was clean with no metal.. What could be the problem? It shifts fine with no problems.

Is it definatly coming from the trans? Could be gear wine and he begining stage of a failure, but also can be like that for years

I was thinking that too.. could gear wine be loud enough to sound like its coming from the transmission?

More than likely its the throw out bearing that is bad. Inexpensive part but need to pull trans to replace it.

+1 throwout bearing.. whines until you push the clutch in usually.

it's the throwout bearing. Part itself doesnt cost much but pulling the trans is a PITA. Take a good look at your clutch while you're in there. It's the perfect time to replace it if you need to.
