Another Swap Thread
Alright I'm new to the forum and new to the mustang, I've posted in the new member area and was told to post over here for more help. I recently purchased a 99' 5 speed with a 3.8, I got it for $2,400 (I feel like it was a bargin) car runs good and has 164,xxx miles. Before I start getting the sell it and just buy a GT or just build the 3.8 I want to keep the car itself, nothing beats a straight body no rust, and mint interior. Plus it is my DD and as of now drive it every day for work. Over time I want to swap in the 4.6 2v (budget friendly). Nothing beats the sound of a V8. I did use the search and haven't come up with to much suscess. Closes I found was a thread from 2010 in which everything was done for $3,500 including some bolt ons. This is going to be a budget build and be over time. I've read on here many different things that need to be done. For example one thread I've read you need the front suspension out of the GT along with interior wiring harness and gauge cluster, along with rear. Then in another I've read you only need motor, transmission, engine bay wiring harness, and ecu, and some other minor stuff. I do not have access to a donor car, but the local junk yards do have a couple GT's minus motor, and transmission. Once again this is going to be over a period of time, I want to gather all parts then swap it all. So my main question is does anyone have a complete list of every part you need for the swap? Or even a link?
Thanks in advance,
Kurt

That thread from 2010 will still be very applicable as far as parts etc... some of the costs may be different though.
Engine, wiring harness, ecu, exhaust manifold definitely. You may need a new crossmember and/or engine mounts. I don't think you will need a new tranny; if anything just a new bell housing.

I just sold my wrecked 04 that had everything you would need minus the mechanic for $1700. I would say keep an eye on craigslist for a wrecked gt fairly cheap. You could buy one like mine was take off what you needed and part out the interior scrap whats left and probably recoup alot of your money!!
For the money of swapping a stock 99-04 4.6L SOHC in, you can supercharge the V6 and make more power. Especially when you look into the cost of having someone else doing all the work of the V8 swap for you.
If you do swap, you'll want the front suspension (V6 uses different springs and dampers than the GT), engine, engine harness, ECU, dash cluster and harness, trans, rear axle and other misc stuff.
Before you jump into this consider what you are doing it for. Usually, people quit half way into it and lose all their money on it.

That's why I'm looking for a list of parts my buddy has a garage I can store parts or even just get a small storage shed. But once all parts are gathered my buddy is going help me and allow me the use of the garage for the complete swap.
I understand this but I don't want to super charge a 164,xxx mile motor that I don't know whether it was abused or not. I plan on running the sixxer until it dies or all parts are gathered. But if it dies and I'm pulling that motor out I'm going to replace it with something better. I'm also more of a n/a kinda guy. I completely understand where your coming from though. Also you mentioned suspension, one thing I'm planning on doing shortly is upgrading my suspension with aftermarket would this solve the problem for later down the road?
