Default What goes here?

Hey Team,

Can anybody tell me what normally goes in this "bolthole"? You can't see it unless the alternator is removed and goes into the head. I can't remember removing anything from here when I took the head off but water does come out of here when the engine is running.

Cylinder head temperature sensor--but AFAIK they were never used on the New-Edge ('99 to '04) Mustang 4.6L 2V. Crown Vic, Explorer, etc had them. My '03 has the cast boss, however it is not drilled and tapped.

from the 2001 Crown Vic shop manual:

I do not have the '96 through '98 shop manual so maybe they were used in Mustangs with the non-PI engines...

I've never saw that being used on a mustang setup. Find out what thread it is and just plug it.

It's a blind bore--you don't need to plug it unless you want to pretty things up...

I missed that, it is supposed to be a blind hole so that it reads the head temp, not the coolant--he will of course have to plug it then...

Someone may have drilled it out and used it for an aftermarket water temp guage at some point.

That was my thought also--pretty silly thing to do, given the choice I'd rather know CHT than ECT...
