Default CAI question

i read some threads saying getting a CAI for the car(02 GT) is a waste, just get a K&N drop in and and buy a tune and be done. But looking at the S197 forums they said get the CAI with tune, i know its a different car, but i would think CAI with tune for my 02 would be better.

The best cold air intake is the mac 85mm. And get a tune wIth that.

A s197 has a different motor than your 2v. A tune will definitely help on your 02 GT. IMO, I don't think the intake is worth buying until you are pushing some more power.

There is no reason the get a cold air intake, there isnt a single one on the market that will get u and performance. If you want one for looks pic the one you think looks the best.

As everyone else has really said. CAI aren't worth the money, unless you get a nice flashy chrome looking one for looks haha.

The only ones i have heard even give a slight performance boost are jlt and bbk, but even then the difference is so small that its not really worth it other then looks

it may not give u any HP but think about it. its alot eaiser for the motor to get air which will prolong its life. its like trying to breathe thru a straw. it makes sense. it may not give u HP or anything

On the S197 the MAF sensor mounts directly into the airbox, so any aftermarket intake that changes the dimensions of airbox requires that you have the engine re-tuned.

On our cars unless you change the MAF assembly, or place the stock MAF sensor into another housing no tuning is required--this is also why on our cars aftermarket intakes are a waste of money.

As has been said 99.44 million times the stock intake is a CAI and a pretty good one at that...

If the motor got in air easier, why wouldn't it make more power?

Well just this week I installed the Airaid intake, I picked it over the others mainly because I liked how the heat shield was better isolated from heat, plus I got a good discount.

No I didn't notice a major difference, but at certain rpm points it seems slightly snappier. It does give that tip in woosh and makes the engine sound meaner which is the main reason why I bought it, in addition to looking better at car shows.

Comparison: Stock Motorcraft, Airaid Synthaflow, K&N drop in GT, old v6 mustang filter
