Default 4.6 rebuild kits

At first I was planning on just doing an engine swap but I changed my mind so now I was looking at rebuild kits and stumbled across this one from summit racing.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEM-CSMHP798-322/

I just wanted to get feedback to see if it's worth it or if there is something more better I can get.

That kit would work great, but that kit is for a crank that has been or is going to need grinding. Do your self a favor and take your crank, rods and block to a good machine shop and let them take a look at the crank and rods. They will let you know what size bearings to go with. OH and make sure that you get the same dish piston so you dont end up with clearance issues. Good luck with the rebuild.

I prefer to assemble my own rebuild components based on the design objective. The Summit kit is a great place to start, but you will still need head bolts, main bolts, maybe a high volume oil pump, etc. If you don't want to mess with ordering parts, consider letting your machinist put together a kit for you tailored to your rebuild plans. Summit has great prices on parts. You can also get great prices on Ford brand parts from Tousley Ford. These guys really know their stuff too.

So once you go with the shortblock to get more power out of it. Would you go with PI heads? I believe I will be going with a mmr shortblock because that is best. I don't see me going over 600hp in a 1996 GT. That would be the day I run and get a cobra

Talk to the guy at excessiveracing.com He is building me a long block complete and ready to go for the same price rebuilding my engine with parts from MMR would have cost. Once you start the tear down you realize all the extras you need. Oil pump, balancing the new rotating assembly etc. Plus the new engine comes is coming with new ported heads and cams.

Generally if u can;t build it yourself by the time u pay labor and machine work it would of been cheaper buying a shortblock.

How much are we talking? Do you have to ship them your block?

I checked out there shortblocks and they are rated for 600hp which is about the same price as mmr. I'm working on a budget myself tho.

I went with excessive for a few reasons. You don't have to send them any parts. I needed heads and wanted a set of cams and they built me ported heads with cams and assembled the long block for about 500 more than a new set of stock heads would have cost with the short block. Jordan (the owner) was great to deal with and didn't try selling me more motor than I needed and has been super helpful with advice the whole time. Also the MMR engine uses Manley pistons and they don't come with valve reliefs so MMR cuts them into the piston top leaving only .070 worth of metal in those areas. Excessive uses custom cut Diamond pistons for the same price and they manufacture the reliefs into them. I'm spending a bit over 5 for everything. Not sure what your budget is but to rebuild my old engine with just buying the rotating assembly and putting it together myself I was at 4700 with new stock heads.
