Yes it will fit. Its the same size engine. You could probably leave your stock ignition, but I would recommend getting it tuned afterwards.

Do you know what a PI swap is, do that dont get a whole new engine. PI swap will put you a lil over then a 99+ you could prolly afford to get a P&P job as well w/ the same amount of money it would take to get a whole new engine. Then you'll dust 99-04's

i did have a 99+ engine swap. i got an 01 s281 in my 96 right now. it went in and hooked up to everything no problem, only thing is you might be stuck with the situation im in right now. i have the return fuel system of a 96, and a new motor with a different pulley setup. basically im stuck trying to get a twin screw sc that will work with this setup. other than that, everything is cool. definetly get a tune afterwards, i need to get one asap. as for the pi swap, its about half the cost, and they arent good for boost. i say if you wanna clean up your engine bay( replace some of those 10 year old parts) you should doit. my swap cost me roughly 2 grand for parts/labor excluding the new clutch. its like driving a brand new car.

ok so if i want a PI swap with P+P it will be about $2500 W/ labor and everything?

Say i got a used 99+ Motor(i dont even no what they go for)everything would be good for a switch and it would def cost a little less for everthing (including labor)???? $2000???

also i prob goin super charge in the long run..just FYI

you can get a used 99+ motor for $1000-1500, install by a mechanic will run about 800-1000$. since you plan on supercharging it id go with the engine swap, and replace that clutch/throwoutbearing/ pressure plate while you're in there and get some lt headers or something while everything is out. like ive said in other posts, im having problems figuring out how to supercharger my 01 s281 motor now that im using the return fuel system that are cars come with. but i think ive got it figured out.
