RE: mac cai
in reply, i absolutely love the combo, the accleration is sooooooo much smoother and the 3000 to 4500 rpm range feels awesome. at a certian throttle position it makes a hiss sound, almost like a turbo spooling up. when i race them there like wtf is under that hood. the only thing that i would have done differently is instead of a metal intake i would have gotten a plastic one bc that thing gets sooo friggin hot and pretty much defeats the purpose of a "cold" air intake.

4zzs. yeah, you just replace the old parts with the new ones. Very easy- took me about an hour and that was taking my time, making sure everything was right. No calibrations, etc. necessary- the computer takes care of all that. Of course, to get the most out of the mods, especially if you have an upgraded exhaust, you'll need a tuner. But even without the tune you'll notice a BIG difference. Also, I,ve looked around andthere are some good deals out there, you just have to do some research.

Yeah dude, don't you love that sound? As for the heat, after running my car hard I checked the cai pipes and they didn't seem that hot. I don't race my car so I'll sacrifice a few degrees of heat for the way the chrome cai looks.

Thanks for all of the comments. The 75mm TB & Plenum sounds like a wise move. And I'll probably do it at the same time as adding a CAI. I just need to decide which CAI (so many to choose from).
Here is a novice question. chuckv6 says I might need a tuner. I don't know what you mean by that???

Companies like SCT and DiabloSport sell hand-held tuners which you can use to make minor changes to timing and whatnot. You can e-mail the company you got your tuner from and they will make a tune for you. You will not need the tuner for just a CAI and TB/plenum though. Costs about $400.
As for CAI brands, Tunable Induction Systems makes a plastic CAI which will keep the intake air cooler, or you can get a chrome CAI from BBK or some such that is more for looks than anything... the chrome ones get hotter than it is worth I think, at least mine does, and it doesn't do much. Whatever you decide to get, it -will- be an improvement over the stock tubing, which isn't the greatest for airflow. Don't worry about a brand too much.
Edit: A couple things to consider though:
If you are going to get a fenderwell CAI, be very wary of deeper puddles. My BBK CAI doesn't go way down in the fender well (it's essentially still taking air from where the stock airbox took air from), so I don't have too much to worry about, but I still keep that in mind when driving on rainy days on roads that may have puddles. If you don't go with a fender well CAI, you will still be taking some air from the warm engine compartment... so keep that in mind too.

How about the combo for $215? Take a look.
