Default 1996 Cobra No Power, Crappy Idle

I took it out of town for the first time since I got it this weekend and it ran fine on the way there, other than hot like it always is. Hot, but runs good, car never had the TSB to fix the cooling problem. I had a alum radiator and a extra fan put on the front of the condenser to try and move some more air. Then on the way back about 45 miles from home it started kind of bucking/surging. Got home then it just had no power and a really rough idle.

It's got a reman longblock with maybe 2k on it, the car has 160k. Just a BBK CAI, LTs, and single catted X with flowmasters and a canned tune are all it has done. It had a rough/rougher idle since i got the engine. So I swapped the IAC, TPS, front O2s and clean the MAF sensor since those had who knows how many miles and it ran pretty smooth, idle slightly higher than I thought it should (1k), but smooth.

I pulled a code 0420, 0430, 1519 and 1405

The 04xx I knew were because of the x pipe, the 1519 I had got before, cleared it 500 miles ago and it went away until just yesterday. Waiting to get enough money to do the deletes. The 1405 I looked up the EGR press hose code. Checked all the tubes and kind of rashly replaced the DPFE sensor. It still runs like crap, like it's a misfire. It's got a very noticeably shake in the shifter and a slight smell of gas under the hood and through the tailpipes. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do now.

I read a bunch of other post that it might be plug wires, coils, plugs... The plugs are new, the wires are motorsports but the lettering is no longer white but a brownish/yellow so no telling how old they are. The coil packs are definitely original. I ordered a set of MSD coils today, been eyeballing them anyways, should have them tomorrow (I live down the road from latemodelresto) so I'm hoping that'll fix it.

Any guesses?? It's a new engine and just about every sensor and piece are new on it, now...

Certainly sounds like a coil pack to me, especially since they're the originals. Hopefully the MSD will do the trick for ya.

Had a similar problem and i just replaced sparkplugs wires and a coil pack. Ran better, don't cheap out on wires, a lot of the autozone brands are defective. go motorcraft or FRPP.
