Performance Mods help, new owner
2001 Mustang GT. Before I starts it's in automatic I didn't choose but just found this vehicle at the dealer. 49k miles paid $8.7k for it, I want to just do some simple bolt ons for a little more performance then go for appearance. Not looking for supercharger or anything. So far from research and asking around I've got in mind, new gears (3.73 or 4.10??), upper plenum and throttle body (should get throttle body spacer?), underdrive pulleys, tune. Already got exhaust and K&N CAI, been researching shorty headers but wondering if they can be installed with my current exhaust which I don't know what it is because I bought it with it on. ADVICE/SUGGESTIONS
well, first off you might want to check out 4.10 gears if youre not planning on going FI. more bang for the buck. the tuner will help dramatically considering its an auto, and youll need one anyways to calibrate the speedo.
Throttle body/throttle body spacer yields very minimum gain, so it shouldnt be at the top of your list. Underdrive pullies dont create power, they "free up" power which is not good for use if you plan on using aftermarket stereos.. etc.
As far as shorties, they also yield very little gain if any but can help your sound slightly. If you have the stock midpipe or an aftermarket midpipe that is standard length they will bolt up. hope this helps

Yeah thanks that helps. So I'm thinking now research some 4.10 gears as long as my automatic can handle them, throw on the plenum/throttle
Body and such a little down the road and get a tune. Out with the pullies and headers for now

And all shorty headers are just eye candy.
The tubes are not even close to long enough to do anything that the stock manifold cannot do. Headers 101...
