The stock filter is in the engine bay as you should know. Easy access. The air intake is through the fenderwall. Aftermarket CAI`S (depending which one you have) the filter is inside the fender, therefore you have to get under the car to take it off and service it. Total pain to get back on.

i dont know what your talking about i guess you have that crappy mac one. I can take out my whole CAI in 5 minutes with a simple screwdriver. My CAI is very easy to service if needed.

its not that hard cleaning/changing the filter on fender mounted CAI. i got a dnesecharger and got a K&N filter and i clean it regualarly with no problem. What i do is i drive my car up onto 2 wheel ramps or you can just jack up the fron end makes life easier.

The rule of thumb is... Once or Twice a year or every 12,000 miles you should clean or buy a new air filter. You dont really service your intake more so you service the air filter.

I took off my stock intake (half of it) to check on the filter and I remember the filter itself being inside the fenderwell...[sm=smiley25.gif]

Is that what you are talking about rbstang?

What kind of setup do you have? Filters mounted inside the fenderwall are a pain. You must be superman because everyone that I know says the same. Also, you shouldnt ever have to replace the filter, they should last the life of the car.

The stock filter IS located in the engine bay, but draws air through a silencer, which is in the fender. I bought a no name kit on ebay that was in the fender. The filter in the Steeda kit is twice as big and I noticed a big difference even though the Steeda kit stays under the hood.

Has anyone put the exhaust/header wrap on a COI? Just wondering if that would help keep heat out of the incoming air?
