Unhappy driving a 5 speed

so Ive never owned a 5speed car, only motorcycle. I must not being doing something right. Ive gone through half a tank and only have 90 miles to show for. Ive been shifting at 2K rpms. I dont let the engine bog down, its never below 1K rpms. Ive not hot rodded the car either on this tank of gas. 90/7.5 = 12 MPG???

I have no code for exhaust leak, I cant hear an exhaust leak. Ive done a mix of city and high way driving. I was expecting 20 - 22mpg....even if I did go WOT once or twice I shouldnt have 12MPG for half the tank.

I am going to see if my gas gauge is faulty but seeing what numbers show up on my next fill up. Last time I got gas it was from less than a 1/4 tank and the gas pump shut off at 8 gallons.

do you have gears? That will affect it a little. How many miles are on it? I had a problem with mine when I first got it of the filler neck had rusted out and only leaked when I took a turn so I never noticed it. Only noticed the bad gas millage

What about the tune? Have you re-tuned it to tell it there are no cats?

they will definitely affect performance. They are constantly sending signals to the ecu to tell it what it should be doing with the fuel trims. I would check your air to fuel ratio and see how far off it is from stoichiometric (14.7:1)

uggg. in another thread I just read someone saying their only purpose was to see if the CAT was working or not.

whats the best place to buy eliminators. what do they do anyway just relay the signal to be "on"?

They make the computer think they are reading correctly. But if you are going to be getting a tuner any time soon I wouldn't bother with it. Almost all tuners shut off the rear o2's when they write their tune

I would say american muscle would be the best

I am not going to spend 400$ on a tuner / programmer.

I got a tuner from american muscle, it ran me $379 I think. It came with 3 different tune settings and free tunes for life. Its a little pricey, but if your planning on doing upgrades at different times I think its worth it.
