shorty headers
What are the best shorty headers to get? I was going to go with mac until I heard that they are complete s***. Who has shortys and how much of a pain are they to install? I know longtubes are better by far, but shorties have to be the way I go.
Where in IL do you stay, & why do you 'have' to go w/shorties. For the time involved in that modification I would not put anything less than mid-lengths on there. I've the Bassani ML's on my GT, & if I were going for LTs' I'd be looking at Hooker. Anything from Mac is garbage IMO.
On a scale of 1-10 PITA, I would rate it an 11. I installed mine with the engine out, and it still took me an hour or two. Some of the header bolts would be damn near impossible to install with the engine in the car. You can't get a socket on all of them. Some you have to use an open ended wrench, quarter turn at a time. I have the BBK, so maybe others are easier. Whatever you get, make sure the a/c lines are routed away from the header. Good luck with whatever you do.
when i was researching headers the bbk's are probably the best shorty header but there a total pita to install. Like 02StanGT said on a scall of 1 to 10 11 is down playing it i did it with the engine in the car it can be done but it took the better part of a day. in fact if i ever have to replace the header gasket im gonna get a head gasket kit. If i was to do it agian i would go with the ford racing headers just for ease of install.
