Default Transmission Woes - Confused

My transmission has a small leak and I need to watch the tranny fluid.

So, I've never had a problem reading the transmission fluid off the dipstick in any car I've had. It has always been straightforward for me. For this Mustang, though, it's kind of confusing. The manual is specific about getting a reading after driving the transmission for 20 miles. Okie. Fair enough. 20 miles, it's warmed up, check dipstick. Got it. So, I drive 20 miles, check the dipstick. The fluid reads halfway up on the cold side of the dipstick. Damn. It's got to be really low. Don't want to burn it up. I go to three different places to get the right tranny fluid. I get full synthetic. I remember what the manual says. "Don't overfill."

Don't overfill.
Don't overfill.
Don't overfill.

So, I put about half a quart in. Drive it 20 miles and now the dipstick is covered to the top. WTF? How does it go (when it's warm) from half way up on the cold reading to over the top on the hot reading?

I think I overfilled the fking thing. The reading is just over the marks on the hot side of the dipstick. Am I going to kill this thing if I drive it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No, a lil overfilled will not hurt it, it does not take much to make the fluid move on the dipstick, if you have access to a mitivac or something sililar just syphon some out of the dipstick tube.
