The difference between Top Tier and no-name gasoline is the additive/detergent package. Using a major brand gasoline helps keep your fuel system clean.
Chevron Techron has been around a long time and it was approved both by Bosch and Porsche not long after it first came on the market. Chevron uses it in their gasolines and calls it Techrolene.
I've been using it twice a year since it came on the market. O'Reilly's puts it on a 2 for 1 special every few months.
Do they work? I've never had a fuel injection problem, so I'm going on faith. Bottom line for me was the approvals from Porsche and fuel injection manufacturer Bosch. I have more faith in Porsche and Bosch than STP or any of the other brands.

"Sonic" has pretty much summed up my feeling on them. They will do not harm, mostly because they are the same chemical that are already in the additive packages used by the major gasoline makers.
I do not use them as regularly as he, but I have been known to dump some in once a year or so--especially in my wife's cars, in the interest of domestic bliss, as she was told once before we met that it was something that had to be done and that not having used it was the source of all her problems with a 1985 Celica with 270k miles on it.

I thought I read a while ago that said if you use these OTC fuel additives to clean the injectors, you need to change the oil after the tank of gas is emptied. I do not know if this is true but it stated that it breaks the oil down.
