Default Exhaust Tips

Hey Guys. Sorry if this may be a dumb question but oh well. I am looking to get some new exhaust tips to replace the small factory ones. I have the stock 2.25" catback. I was wondering, do i need to get 2.25" inlet or can i go 2.5" inlet. I am getting weld-ons. This is the tip i am looking at.

Thanks in advance guys.

Go with the 2.25, (if the factory exhaust is 2.25 o.d. I never have measured it so please do measure.) The 2.5 would work since the welder could fill in the extra and the tip has a hanger but I have seen exhaust shops only weld 1/2 to 3/4 around the tip which would cause a leak

The linked tips have the 2.25 inch inlet. If you want to go with 2.5 inch inlets it can be done I think. The welder may need to use a sleeve to fill the gap meaning 4 welds instead of 2. I think a .25 inch gap would be too much for the welder to fill without the sleeve, but I haven't done any welding in 30 years and that was stick welding on natural gas lines. Why would you want to go with 2.5 inlet?
Edit: I see Schoolboy provided a better answer while I was pecking out mine.
