whats the best tuner?

RE: whats the best tuner?
^^^^^ What he just said. You have the option of changing settings manually with the Predator or XCal 2 tuners, but you do not have to do so to use the performance tune(s) that come pre-loaded on them.

RE: whats the best tuner?
Lets see....
the STC Xcal 2 (for an stick)
you get the following options on the 3 tunes (usually 87, 91 & 93) :
fuel adjustment at WOT
timing +/- 8 degrees (seperate settings for 1-2000, 2000-4000, 4000+ )
idle speed
rev limit RPMs (seperate settings for in gear/out of gear, but i'm not convinced it works at all)
low-speed fan temp
high-speed fan temp
Did I forget anything? I'm sure an Auto brings more transmission related options.

RE: whats the best tuner?
What type of questions does it ask? Are they questions that anyone ho knows something about cars can answer?
I know alot about rebuilding and troubleshooting, but when it comes to specifics( ie. timing degrees, fan temp, Air-fuel ratio) I'm lost. Do you have to answer questions lke that?

RE: whats the best tuner?
Xcal 2 has datalogging via a laptop and soon stand alone with upgraded firmware.
After data logging you can adjust your tune.
The problem with xcal2 is that you don't know what they did to tune it for 87,91,93 octane.
They put tunes in that are relevant to your mods.
Understanding all the dataloging options is a chore, but if you can understand them, u can add to the tunes to the tuner.
The reason they don't want you to know what they tuned in the xcal2, is so if you change the tune advancing the timing
and making it lean, there goes you engine.
But the best tune would be a dyno tune with the xcal2 would be better than the canned tunes which do work well.
I couldn't use a diablo because i have a 96 mustang, they don't have anything for that year.So by not mentioning doesn't mean it is good too.
You can pull up to a gas staion and change the tune for the octane your getting in 15-30secs for 99 and up.
With higher the octane the timing can be advanced theoretically 2 degree 89 octane,4 degree 91 octane and so on because it doesn't or less likely to pre-detonate.

RE: whats the best tuner?
I was kinda thinking the same thing. When I read that whole plug and press and done thing I was thinking...no chance in hell i'm gonna do that. I don't trust myself enough for that.
So if you use their preset(s) you def don't have to worry about mucking anything up??

I have the Diablosport. It aasked auto/manual (maybe a few other simple things like that), and then I just went through the manual to the pre loaded performance tune. I really don't have a dyno around to check, but the improvement was huge. I love it. It's really the only mod I have done so far. I have a cat-back, CAI, and a few other things I am working on in the next few weeks, so I will have to go back to the stock tune after that (til I can get a custom one done)...
Easy to use. I don't know much about cars, and I got it to work.
Good luck
