Supercharger Pulley

Supercharger Pulley
Hey guys, ive got a question in regards to my supercharger...ive currently got a 2.87" pulley and VMP Tuning just released a 2.49" pulley for my S/C... Will i need a larger Idler? or should the tensioner pick up must of the slack? Also, as long as I keep my foot out of it, the car will be fine until i get it retuned correct?
Currently at 344 rwhp, estimate on how much id bump up with the different pulley?
Thanks guys, yall are awesome..

You might need a shorter belt. I wouldn't chance it with a belt that might be too long. And I would not install that pulley without a proper re-tune. Unless you're gonna install it and then drive it straight to the tuner without getting on it. If you're on a stock bottom end, you're running the chance of blowing a piston. And depending on how much boost that pulley will add, you might even snap a rod. Those rods are not that strong. Don't take the chance. On a stock bottom end, don't go any higher than 10 lbs on a centri blower.

I figured the pulley would bring me to right around 10 lbs...Read everywhere that our engines were good for 450 rwhp...didnt think 10 lbs would get me anywhere near that make. would have been happy with 400 rwhp.
But yes, stock bottom end. Grrr, I want more power, really dont wanna rebuild the bottom end yet. Might just say screw it and throw a MMR long block in...

When you are running over 400RWHP on these cars it is hit or miss on how long your bottom end will last.
In my opinion a theres two main things that factor into how long your motor will last. Proper maintenance in the past and a quality dyno tune.
I've been at my power level for over 50,000 miles with about a dozen trips down the drag strip and its still running great. Some dudes blow their **** up after 3 months at this power level. A crappy tune that lets your A/F creep up into the mid 12s will get you a busted motor. Vacuum leaks/malfunctioning parts will get you a busted motor when you step on it.
Keep the oil changed and don't lean it out....its pretty simple.
I've even cavitated my fuel rails before under boost several times and for some reason my motor is still here.

Is it a Vortech, Paxton, or Procharger? If it is one of those (centri blower) then you can safely go to 10 pounds. I think the kits start out at 8 pounds. So an extra 2 won't hurt. But no more than that. The good thing about the GT is that the compression is only about 9.4:1 so you can get away with more boost. You can add meth injection or an aftercooler or intercooler to help out. But after that you should start looking into gathering parts for a build...forged pistons, H-Beam rods, forged crank.
