Default Transmission Switch

Hey, new to the scene to this forum so a little confused. But i was wandering if someone could help me out, i need to know if its possible to switch a 2000 GT Convertible from a Automatic to a Manual, or if i might as well get a newer one thats a Manual. Only reason im even considering the switch out because of what i have already done to my car would be a newsance to waste all the effort and switch everything out. Thanks

In the long run, you'll probably end up being faster with the automatic. Don't bother with the 5-speed swap, get a shift kit, and a big *** converter. Like 3800 + and that thing will come out of the hole like a raped ape.

I feel you though, I don't like automatic cars either, but faster is faster.

^^^^^ This is the best way to go. Do you have a hand held tuner? if so did you adjust the shift pressure/points? If not get one and adjust them you will really like how your trans feels then. If you want more have the j-mod done (or you can get a shift kit) and then adjust the line pressure with the j-mod and you will really love your car. I have the Trans-go shift kit and predator tuner and my car shifts really hard, but I love it.

I believe the ECU has to be swapped as well. The ones for the Manual don't have the hardwire programming....

The ECU doesn't have to be swapped. The T-45 isn't computer controlled and there is a bypass for the auto trans control.

do all automatic transmission rely on new-fangled computers to shift, or are they still somewhat old school using the ATF in circuits to tell it when to engage a new set of clutches?

Stock transmissions are all computer controlled these days. But you can do the C4 or C6 swap or something along those lines. Those don't have any computer association.
