Default 4.6 to 5.4?

So I made a minor mistake and picked up a pair of 5.4 heads. Minor because...screw it, more power.

Just wondering if anyone has done one of these swaps and if the timing chains are still the same.

I found an adapter plate for the intake manifold, looking for new valve covers and the 10mm studs I need for the head brackets.

As far as the hood, well if it needs to be a cowl we are thinking about cutting a hole for a scoop. It'll give me a laugh and I probably need to buy a new hood anyway, so who cares if I screw up?

4.6 and 5.4 2v heads are the same. %.4's had the pi and npi heads too.

I have seen swaps in the past so I know they are a direct bolt on. What I am concerned with is the timing chains and if they are still the same.

Default swap

if you have an aftermarket k member you can get k member spacers to give you more hood clearance as well.

Alright. Disappointed on the valve covers though. Have BBKs for 4.6. Is there a point to the intake manifold adapter 4.6-5.4? I put my manifold up to the heads and it looks like everything lines up perfectly.

Ok, are you using the 5.4 block or just the heads off the 5.4?
If just the heads, there is no difference. The valve covers are only difference if you have the 2v romeo head and going to Windsor 2v heads or vice versa. No power difference and both bolt on any modular bock. The 5.4 engines used the same heads as the 4.6's.

Just the heads. Yeah I thought the heads looked the same. When I saw the cams just figured they were a newer model than the 01's I installed. We pulled them off a 96 at the junkyard.

Yea, theyre the npi(older version of the 2v heads), but the same as the heads on your 98. Go and get a pair of 99-04 2v heads, you will make more power. As for the valve covers, the bolt pattern was different in the 99-01 2v's. if the valve covers are on your engine, then they should fit the current heads.

No, they are PI heads. They are stamped, diamond inlets, the works. They may have come off a 96, but they were swapped onto that one. The valve covers do not fit them because they are 5.4s. I looked up the number stamped on the sides before making my original post.

I never saw the 5.4 heads before so when I pulled them off that mustang I thought they were 4.6. All I wanted to know was if the timing chains were still the same from my 98 block, and the 5.4 heads. I am trying to find out anything else I will need to know because I am to the point of lighting the car on fire and letting it roll down a cliff.
(If you saw the last 2 years, you would understand)

Other than that, I have found people talking about this 4.6-5.4 adapter for the intake manifold. Is it BS, or do I actually need one? Because it doesn't look like I do.
