You should just be able to unscrew it.

If you look on the bottom of the **** there's about a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch piece of metal/plastic thats not part of the ****. You have to unscrew that and move it down. There should be 3 tiny screws going around the base of the **** that were covered by that piece of metal. Now you can screw them back in to tighten it or unscrew them and it just slides off.

IMO just replace it. I think it doesnt fit a Mustang (looks wise) - check out these.

What do you mean "by it started shaking?" Like the whole stick was shaking or just the **** was unscrewing sometimes?

My bad about the link. Go to www.50resto.com and go to products (on the left) then click on drivetrain, then shift parts, then shift *****.

the shifter ****. thanks it was the little metal part at the bottom that unscrewed and i tightend the 3 screws with an alan wrench and its fine now. it was starting to feel like the shifter was in jello. the **** would twist a little in my hand and i would almost go in the wrong gear but its good now. thanks again

I'd replace it anyway. Like the one said above, it doesn't look right. Oh, and clean the brake dust off the front wheels! LOL j/k.
